About

Clark Heijbroek

Clark first began co-creating with nature in Findhorn where he grew up, the intentional community in the north of Scotland. At age 9 he took responsibility for his own flower bed, growing gladiolas, dahlias, and bachelor buttons. From a young age he got his green thumb from his mum who was a gardener there for 20 years and she from her grandpa, a Dutch orchid grower. He received his B.A. in Landscape Architecture from Edinburgh College of Art, has worked in a plant nursery in the Caribbean, and three different organic farms in Maine, until finally the conditions were right and he could create Marpa Farm & Nursery.

Steph Rendall

Steph is a trained social worker but has found herself working in higher education for the past 7 years. She grew up in Brunswick, Maine, with a long line of ancestors raising families along the Kennebec River. She is passionate about designing resilient systems, facilitation, singing in community, and figuring out how to stay creative, soft, and human as we move through catabolic collapse.

Marpa

Marpa the Translator was a famous Buddhist master from Tibet who translated many texts from India. He maintained a life as a householder, which included farming. Living in the dharma while working on the land is something that inspires us. It also explains our logo, a water-coloring by Steph, which is the dharmachakra or wheel of dharma. The eight spokes represent the eightfold path.
It also looks a little like a farm cart, so we think it captures our love of Buddhism and growing!
